(offered by Dr. Melanie Reidl only)
Food sensitivities occur when the body has ingested a food that triggers the immune system to react negatively and cause inflammation. It can occur within hours or within a few days and because of this delay, it can be difficult to determine which foods were the sources of the problem. Symptoms can range from:
Digestive symptoms:
- Bloating
- Gas
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Skin rashes
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Chronic itching
- Headaches
- Migraines
Mood disorders:
- Hyperactivity
- Lack of concentration and focus
- Anxiety
- Depression
Respiratory symptoms:
- Runny nose
- Puffiness around eyes
- Joint pain and discomfort
The procedure involves a blood draw from a local lab, which identifies food sensitivities that may be causing any number of health complaints. A 120, 160 or 220 food panel is taken with the most common foods eaten, including meat, fish, dairy, grains, nuts, coffee, sugar, other sweeteners, vegetables and fruits. This test can be valuable for assessing food intolerances and sensitivities in individuals 2 years and older. It is important to consume a wide variety of foods at least 5 days prior to taking the test to have the most accurate results.
