Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture is based on the principles of balancing the energy flow throughout the body. Very thin, sterile and disposable needles are inserted into special points to stimulate the flow of “qi” energy. “Qi” is considered the life force and when pain, inflammation, disease or stagnation exists, it is considered to be due to blocked “qi”. Acupuncture balances this “qi” along the pathways of the body creating a balanced, relaxed and pain free state.
What conditions does it treat?
Acupuncture may be used alone, but is often used in combination with other natural therapies to treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Pain Management
- Inflammation Reduction
- Post-Operative Support
- Stress Management
- Migraines, Headaches
- Fertility Support
- Digestive Concerns
- Hormonal Balancing
- Smoking Cessation
What can I expect during a treatment?
Many individuals expect needles to be painful, but with acupuncture the needles are extremely thin. Only a slight pinch is felt upon insertion and thereafter you may experience a sensation of dullness or tingling. Most people feel relaxed after treatment and report an increase in overall wellbeing.
How often should I come?
A series of sessions are generally needed for results and the frequency depends on the individual and their particular health condition. Once the initial complaint is addressed, maintenance sessions are recommended. If you have any questions or concerns, our Naturopathic Doctors and Registered Acupuncturist will work with you to address all issues and to develop a protocol that you are comfortable with.
